CAMPAIGN UPDATE:
The Connecticut Supreme Court has heard oral arguments from Isma’il’s defense and the state as of Friday, September 18, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
This is a significant milestone in Isma’il’s case and an opportunity for our community to demonstrate that the pursuit of justice matters. We currently await the findings of the CT Supreme Court with the possibility of the court overturning the conviction and calling for a new trial. We hope to see justice served and Isma’il free from this wrongful conviction.

Isma’il Abdus-Sabur is a father of four, cofounder of King Bishop’s
Entertainment, and the face of the FreeAbdus campaign. He has been incarcerated since 2014. During those years, his mother passed away, his four children grew up, and his first grandchild was born.
FreeAbdus is our campaign for his freedom and meaningful access to justice for people challenging wrongful convictions.
Behind this hashtag is our family, still loving, still fighting, and still believing Ismail should be home.
Help someone new learn his name.

A life was lost in Waterbury, and two families were changed forever. Taking that loss seriously also means examining whether the right person was convicted.
The FreeAbdus campaign asks people to examine the attempted home invasion and the evidence that was not presented at Isma’il Abdus-Sabur’s trial.
In 2023, a habeas court granted partial relief after finding ineffective assistance of counsel involving the failure to subpoena his brother. That relief was later reversed on appeal. The Connecticut Supreme Court agreed to review the issue on September 18 and we are awaiting the decision.
There are different rulings at different stages. Our fight continues because we believe the full evidence matters—and Ismail’s wrongful conviction must be corrected.
Cost, call and email Waterbury State Attorney Maureen Platt, begging her to vacate his case and reunite him with his family.

One day wrongfully imprisoned is too long. More than a decade is egregious.
Sign the FreeAbdus petition—https://c.org/ZHLNbP97hk—to support our call for Isma’il Abdus-Sabur’s freedom and changes to Connecticut law that would allow all credible evidence to be considered in actual innocence claims.
We are advocating for a path to justice that allows newly presented evidence to be heard, including evidence that was available but never presented at trial.
Your signature helps us demonstrate community support as we press for change. It does not replace a court ruling, but it adds your voice to the demand that wrongful convictions be addressed.
